Choose and Book

When you and your GP agree that you need to see a specialist, Choose & Book is a service which allows you to choose your hospital or clinic and book an appointment with a specialist online. You will be able to choose, with the help of your GP, from up to at least four hospitals or clinics.

What to expect

Your GP will discuss with you the reasons for your referral and will offer a choice of hospitals that meet your needs. Once you have decided which hospital you wish to attend, you will be contacted to collect some paper work from reception. This is your referral confirmation details. Please keep this in a safe place.

You will need to contact the Choose & Book service to arrange your appointment, please have your confirmation details to hand as you will need to refer to some of the details.

If you do not contact the Choose & Book service within 9 days, you will automatically be sent a reminder letter. A second reminder letter will be issued after 18 days. Please note; if you have not contacted within the 18 day limit, your referral will be cancelled.

There are two areas of healthcare where the location in which you are treated is not subject to free choice, those are mental health and maternity.

If you do lose your confirmation details, you can contact the surgery and they will be able to re-print it for you.
