Carers

AM I A CARER?

You are a carer if you provide unpaid support to a relative, friend or neighbour who couldn’t manage without your help.

Caring for someone who needs support due to their age, physical or mental illness, disability or substance misuse, involves a range of tasks to help with their day to day living.

Being a carer can have a big impact on your life, but there is support available to assist you.

Our Carers Champion at the surgery is Rosemarie Muter. Please do not hesitate to contact Rosemarie or if you would like to be referred to Carers In Hertfordshire please either fill in a referral form and pass to reception or you can print and bring to reception  and I will ensure your information is referred to the service.

CARERS IN HERTS HEALTHY HUB EVENT

The date of the first Hub is the 25th January at the Healthy Hub, Lytton Way, Stevenage

Herts Healthy Hub Event Information

Secondly we have held 3 events like this in the past – Watford, Bishop Stortford and St Albans and they proved popular so are planning 4 this year and will be planning further events in other districts in the future.  The sessions involve taking part in focussed discussion groups about what is helpful that we are doing now, what could be improved, facilitating group discussions between carers and professionals. Essentially they are larger scale versions of the Hub Support meetings that happen monthly .

The work is linked into the Carer Support Hub groups which provide a meeting at 12 venues for carers to attend once a month where they can get practical information and emotional support.  These groups are run by volunteers.  You can find out more about hubs on http://www.carersinherts.org.uk/how-we-can-help/carer-services/carer-support-hubs (this link will open in a new window – popups must be allowed)

The hubs are part of the Big Lottery Caring Communities Project.  By April 2019 we will have developed 16 Carer Support Hubs across the County.

And finally these Hubs are intended to have both carers and professionals in attendance and the first Hub in Stevenage is aimed at carers/professionals in that particular area so Carers Champions, Carer Leads, Practitioners, Gps, Managers from in around the Stevenage Locality.

If you have any questions please let me know.
